The understanding of place is fundamental for conceptual thinking and designing and also acts as a strong instrument for reasoning and presenting architectural and other spatial ideas. The course aims at broadening and enhancing the tools available in respect to the analysis and the sensitivity of “place”. It is open to students of all fields of design. The situation of international students is given special attention: New perspectives on the city are developed, presented and discussed. The course is a “learning by doing” seminar in which the urban fabric is experienced and explored. Starting from personal observations and concerns, a bigger context is being created during the course. This also allows to experiment with and refine techniques of analysis and representation such as sketching, collaging, mapping, diagramming or even cartoons. Short lectures and critiques accompany the work process. Language of instruction is English, open to all language levels.
